Costa Rica Blogs, Vlogs and travel Diaries
Two weeks in Costa Rica
Two weeks in Costa Rica is a Costa Rica blog operated by two Expats from Boston and is targeted primarily toward tourists with plenty of articles about where to go and what to do in the country. The do however provide some information for those thinking of making the move to Costa Rica as well. You can book shuttles and tours via their web site or contact them directly with any questions. The site is highly searchable and well organized with Itineraries and destinations. They claim to offer discounts on many attractions rental cars and lodging, but as always you must do your homework to make sure you are getting the best deal if that is one of your priorities.

Costa Rica Facebook Groups
Facebook groups, and Costa Rica Facebook groups in particular, tend to be a place where a certain segment of the membership feel the need to troll the board looking to (for whatever reason) be jerks to other people. Someone may ask a simple question and the board bullies may respond in a rude or belittling way. Not all groups have this mentality, but some of the larger groups tend to have these elements active and unchecked. There are a few exceptions I will post below. Many also like to turn every conversation into an opportunity to turn it into a US political issue. These people and any other you find annoying should be blocked. The Blocking feature is in my opinion one of the best ways to improve your social media experience. Don’t engage the negative people, just block them and your experience will be much more pleasant and productive.
Moving to Costa Rica – w/Sarah Elena
https://www.facebook.com/groups/movetocostarica
Sarah Elena is a Costa Rica relocation specialist and started this group to help her clients and other learn more about Costa Rica. This a very positive board and is my go to group for all things Costa Rica and I was among the few first 10 or 12 members back when it started in 2020. The membership has exploded to over 2,000 people thanks in large part to Sarah’s huge following on You Tube. Despite the fact that it’s membership is steadily growing, the group still maintains a civil and welcoming attitude, which is often hard to find among the Costa Rica Expats groups. Sarah has a 0 tolerance policy for bullies and members can ask any question without fear of being picked on for wanting to learn.
Another bonus with this group is that Sarah often goes live from this group (and YouTube channel at the same time), talking about moving to Costa Rica or Costa Rica in general.
Expats Lovers of Costa Rica(positive group for living Pura Vida cr)
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1733421250124992
This is another group that has a very positive vibe and run by a Costa Rican Doctor by the name of Andrea Mariee Steinheizar. She loves to share the wonderful things about her country with everyone. People tend to be very civil on this board and take the term Pura Vida to heart.
This is a group created for lovers of COSTA RICA,nature and beautiful places to visit. Despite the daily traffic congestion, failing infrastructure, corruption, politicians unwilling to do better, etc. and the rainy season, Costa Rica is among the happiest people in the planet and on what matters most: doing a good job at assuring a high quality of life for ordinary citizens.
The Social Progress ranks the Costa Rica in the world and tops in Central America.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/3184512501609792
This group was started in 2020 in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis by primarily Canadians trying to pool their knowledge and resources to find a way to get to Costa Rica. The group is open to all seeking knowledge about living or moving to Costa Rica and it’s moderators do a good job of keeping the rif raf out
This group is intended for people who are moving to Costa Rica permanently, but have had their plans change because of the Pandemic. It is a place to post the most up-to-date information on travel, tourism, flights, etc. It is not meant for self-promotion unless a member asks for a recommendation. Shares from other groups are allowed, but no promotion of an entire facebook group or page.
Costa Rica Souther Zone Long Term Rentals
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1318805588186836
This group is just what the title says, a place to find or list long term rentals in Costa Rica’s Souther Zone. Just obey the groups rules and you will have access to a very good resource for finding a rental property.
A bulletin board to connect owners and seekers of long term rental homes. If you are looking for a long term rental – post what you are looking for here! If you have a home available for rent, post it here! Please include as much detail as possible – you will get more responses if you include details like price / budget, size, restrictions (pets / kids, etc) and photos.
Costa Ballena Bulletin Board *Advertise Monday Only*
https://www.facebook.com/groups/costaballenabulletinboard
This a really nice community board for those living in the Uvita Dominical area. As the name states there are ads for local businesses allowed on Mondays to help the struggling business owners. You can learn much about everyday living in Costa Rica by following this board.
Bonus Facebook Group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/crimeawarenesscostaballena
I would not say this is a pleasant group, mainly because of the nature of things and people are not always kind here, but it is a very good place to find out about some of the things one needs to be aware of. Nobody wants to think about crime in paradise, but to ignore it is to put oneself in jeopardy. By the same token to obsess about these things will make you miserable. The information is here to help you be aware of things going on in the Southern zone and amounts to a kind of online neighborhood watch. Politics often rears it’s ugly head here, but just ignore that, play nice and you may be able to learn from someone else’s mistake.
